 Summer is Slip Sliding Away
"You know the nearer your destination, the more you slip sliding away."
Those words, from the Simon and Garfunkel song, seem very appropriate during this time of year. Summer seems like it just started and now it is almost over. One sure sign that summer keeps slip sliding away, is the fact that school bells will once again soon be ringing in Madisonville and Hopkins County.
For many adults, whether we have children or not, this time of year can be quite hectic. When we're in a hurry to beat the traffic or if we're running late for work, it can be easy to forget to slow down, especially around schools. School speed zones are established, with significantly reduced speed limits, because during the school year these areas are dangerous places for children, pedestrians, and motorists. Since everyone’s safety is my top priority, I urge all motorists to be conscious of their responsibility to slow down when driving through school zones.
By working together, we can help make our schools and community safer for everybody.
I wish all students and parents a great 2009/10 school year.
So, even though you may be "nearer your destination,” slow down, pay attention to your surroundings, and most of all...BE SAFE!
Mayor Will Cox
